The Crown Letter
Michelle Deignan is a member of The Crown Letter, an International Women’s Art Collective founded in April 2020 initially as a response to worldwide Covid lockdown. The collective’s artists, which has included up to fifty artists from all over the world, new works for weekly publication on the Crown Letter’s website. These are moving image, photographic, sculpture, drawing, text, collage, performance and audio works responding to the moment, to personal and political preoccupations, to the group, to the public, and continuing artists’ ongoing research. We also meet as a group weekly online, at The Crown Letter Salon. This is an important part of our collective support network and a forum for conversation, imagining and making plans. With over 180 weeks of The Crown Letter to date we have built up a substantial online archive. By working through and with this archive we have produced a number of physical exhibitions since 2021 – at Biennial Sur in Argentina and Uruguay, a billboard commission for Paris Photo 2021, and exhibitions at the French Institutes in both Kyoto and Prague. The Crown Letter featured in Volume 9, No. 2 Moving Image Review and Art Journal 2021.
