15:1, Five Years, London, 2001

15:1 is a single channel video work by Michelle Deignan, installed in the upstairs gallery at Five Years. The work is a reconstruction of a television quiz show, without the questions, contestants, compare, set or lighting design. Filmed in the same London television studio as the original programme, the video matches the previously broadcast quiz, shot for shot. The twenty four minute video’s soundtrack is constructed from the incidental noise recorded alongside the images. A television studio, designed to facilitate the illusion of a seamless and continous environment is, here, framed by a narrative structure with no obvious content.
